And now back to the weekend... and how fabulous it is for the music fan. Starting tonight (Friday 5 March) at The Hollins where Chris Birdsall and Rich House are playing. Or, catch the Junk Yard Dogs at the Nags Head. Then, tomorrow night you will find Joe Roberts, Melanie Williams (of Butterfly Jam fame) and friends, making soulful sounds at The Baths Hotel.

Also on Satuday Diskobawl - a night that means to give the people something to dance to! With Mars Black, Electric Dollhouse and DJ sets by 3 of Macc's finest (see the picture). The plan is to make this a regular thing (support it). It's at The Townhouse.

And, on Sunday, Mars Black are at it again, this time supporting The Tensions at Ronnie's Bar in an night of rock n roll for those who like it raw and dirty.

teneight are holding a special Mother’s Day weekend photoshoot, ‘Mum & Me’. It’s free to take part, no appointment is necessary and although it will only take a few minutes the photographs will bring a smile to your faces for years to come.

Bring your Mum along to our studio at 84 Buxton Road on Saturday 13th or Sunday 14th March, anytime between 10am & 5pm to have a beautiful portrait taken of the two of you together for free.

Prints will be available to buy after the shoot on our website from only £18.00 and £1.00 of each print sale will be donated to MedEquip4Kids children’s charity.

MACCLESFIELD: A NEW VIEW

This is a new photography competition, open to all.

THE IMAGE:

Do you have a favourite view of Macclesfield, somewhere you stand and enjoy? Perhaps you were born here, and there’s a particular building or street that just feels like home? Or maybe you’ve moved here recently and discovered something special?

Whatever it is, they want to see your ‘new view’ of Macclesfield - it could be a landscape, a building or object, a person or a group of people – the only thing they ask is that there must be some connection with the town and its location.

“This is a really exciting opportunity to showcase local talent and creativity”, says photographer and New View coordinator, Alex Wright of teneight studios “Each photograph will reflect a different perspective and allow us to see the town through someone else’s eyes. And because it’s open to everyone – professionals and non-professionals, adults and children alike – we should see some really interesting and diverse images.”

Your photograph can be a traditional view or something more avant garde – look through magazines, go online, take inspiration from your favourite photographer – but whatever you do have fun shooting a ‘new view’ of Macclesfield.

Closing date for entries: Midnight on Friday 7 May 2010

You are likely to have strong links to the poetry-writing community in Manchester and the surrounding area, but also be driven by the desire to reach out to new audiences. You will be supported in the role by the Director and the rest of the Poetry School team in London.

Rope music

Its lovely to see art appearing in new spaces, so go and have a look at SAS Daniels Solicitors hosting an exhibition 'Something for Nothing' by Maria Maw, eco artist, until the end of the month.

Glen Tilbrook,lead singer from Squeeze and writer (with Chris Difford) of a string of classic hits comes to Biddulph this week. A great voice, a truly wonderful performer and another major coup for the area. Support from country influenced chanteuse Angie Palmer.

This Thursday there is a special performance at Fallibroome High School.' I write the songs' is an evening dedicated to the Art of the singer-songwriter: from Dylan to Elton John, Thom York to Amy Winehouse and more. A relaxed evening, nightclub style. Why not have a go on the open mic?
