'Let's face it, Christmas music is is not very good. Joy Division are the most influential band of the twentieth century, and the antithesis of the commercial, sugary sweet pop that is usually played at Christmas. There is still a lot of love for Ian Curtis,Stephen Morris, Peter Hook and Bernard Sumner worldwide. Ian died tragically young, yet his contribution (and that of the other members of the band) to the landscape of the independent music scene was immense.'

Let's get the Joy Division classic, "Love Will Tear Us Apart" to number one in the Christmas pop charts.

Get down to the Heritage Centre on Roe street to see the Joy Division/ Ian Curtis exhibition. Its a fantastic and very evocative collection of letters, tickets, flyers, cuttings and pictures and other ephemera from the band.

Today the 30th anniversary of Curtis' death it is natural to be thinking about the huge creative influence Curtis and Joy Division have had on the music world. It is surely also high time that Macclesfield thinks about celebrating it's extraordinary son. A plaque at 77 Barton Street at the very least, a statue?
