Curious

Following on from our previous picture request.A big thank you to Lucy who has sent in this photo from her hols of a maginicent and deliciously goofy lion from a small town in Wales. I wish he would come to Macc.

A few people have mentioned to us how much they enjoy peering at the blog but don't get round to signing up to the loop proper. We're baffled by this ( but admit we don't get round to quite a few things ourselves) as you are missing out on so much info if you don't.The blog is only a top up / up date/ reminder/ last minute sort of listing place, whereas the loop proper gives you lots more events information plus editorial too. A reader told me recently he prints it off and highlights the must see/ do bits with a high lighter pen.Thats a tidy mind for you.

The Janes are working on the next edition as I type so nows the time to e mail us at maccloop@googlemail.com to make sure you receive it this time.

With that in mind, is your club or group starting its Autumn programme, have you some great gigs lined up, a series of workshops or an exhibition taking shape that we should know about ? Please let us have full information by Friday 4th September. Remember these listings are entirely free.

Something for the weekend?

We do like a bank holiday weekend although it usually heralds a good down pour. Grab a brolly and get on with it any way. Theres 'folk in a field' at Rushton Spencer on Saturday night and Crafts in Siddington Village hall on Sunday and Monday 10.30-4.30.The 'Creative Craft Association' is well known for Craft and Gift Fairs and they are in action at Gawsworth Hall Saturday- Monday this weeknd with speciality food and entertainment also.

We're eagerly heading down to West Park on Sunday 12- 4pm for the Skate Jam at the specially built ramp. Frankly a danger to ourselves on anything other than our own feet, but we are keen to see the graffitti art by Krek and Mers, who will be decorating the newly enlarged and enhanced skate ramp. They will also be producing two special original canvasses that will go on display in Macclesfield town center and up for auction on eBay, with other art from local artists, to support the costs of the jam.Oh there's reggae too.

Gig wise theres Conspiricy of Equals(friday) Electric Echo (Saturday) and Guttersnipe on Sunday at the Nags Head. Whilst Ronnies hosts George Borowski on Monday 31st.

Returning from the annual holiday hosing with trench foot and a mountain of washing, it is reassuring to see Macc is still wet. Irritating though. The School hols are in the final phase and parents will be more desperate than ever for diversions to prevent in house fratricide. They are chez loop any way. With that in mind:
Crafty Creations at Lyme Park 25/ 26 Aug afternoons. Drop in workshop for 4-11 yr olds. Normal admission charges apply . Booking not needed.

Wed Aug 26 Childdren’s Workshop Modern silk dyeing for youngsters led by Stephanie Dakin, artist and freelance art teacher. Free but please book.

Thurs 27 and Friday 28August – Craft Club – Tantalising Toys. 10am – 12 noon. Children age 6 – 11 years. £5.

On Thursday between 10-12 there is the Quest seeker Crafts session in the library tooIf you just want to hole up at home with them and get the paints out why not have ago at the Number ten Art competiition. They are looking for young artists to put pens, pencils and brushes to paper for the Number 10 Art Competition on the theme of 'Environment' .The panel of judges will be looking for creativity and artistic flair when choosing the best pictures from three age groups: 5 – 7, 8 – 11 and 12 – 16 years.Whether you’re a painter, sketcher or digital artist, you can enter the competition by creating your artwork on a landscape, A3format . The winning entries will be hung in the reception of number 10 and admired by visiting dignitaries and world leaders. Just think someone like John Prescott could cast his artistic eye over your collage....

Midnight Walks, Vampires and Family Fun

This Saturday Silk Brass the ever popular, 28-piece band from Marton, will be performing at the parish church of St Michaels and All Angels. While we’re talking about the Hospice, it is still not too late to sign up for the Midnight Walk. It is the most important fundraising event of the Hospice year and a night of great fun. Sign up this weekend and hit the road walking on Saturday 12 September 2009.

Oh, and Saturday, for fans of Stephanie Meyer, Kristin Cast and all books vampire-esque, is Gothic Teen Day at Waterstones. Including, the release of the 6th House of the Night novel.

Sunday 23 August is, of course, Family Fun Day (picture courtesy of http://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/) in West Park, with exciting stunt acts, kiddies’ Arena, acrobatic display team, fairground, craft marquee, giant inflatables and much more. The fun begins at 10am and entry is free.

Very important to say too, that with the release of The Time Travellers Wife scheduled at Cinemac (and on general release) for Friday 28 August (5.30 and 8pm) there is still time to read the book. A writer (Audrey Niffeneger) who can make time travel seem feasible must be worth reading – an excellent novel.

Rain Doesn't Stop Play!

Hard to believe, sitting here in the bright of a perfect summers evening but the forecast for the next couple of days is not good. So, for the children and indoors, why not visit the Library in Macclesfield and Meet the Park Rangers on Thursday 27 August between 10am and 12 noon.

Or, alternatively attempt Art Deco Designs at the Silk Museum on Park Lane. Quilling and raised stencil work for children aged 6 - 11 years. From 10am - 12 noon and on both Thursday and Friday (26 & 27). It costs just £5 but booking is essential.

For children and grown ups in a down pour, or just for the fun of it, there is always Cinemac... Showing for your entertainment on Thursday 20: Aliens in the Attic (PG) at 3pm & 5.30pm and at 8pm: Inglourious Basterds (18).
