There is a ceilidh with live band Striding Edge and a real Ale Bar at Park Royal School on Friday night if you want to stretch your legs.

Kems choir present an orchestral concert at St Michael's Church on Saturday or you can catch

A very different sort of music can be heard on Sunday in the charming King Edward St Chapel. Donovan Johnson is a full time pianist from the USA who specialises in classical and jazz .He'll be playing his 'beautiful New Age music to inspire the mind and lift the Spirit'. For further moments of contemplation, join the Rangers War and Remembrance Trail around the cemetary on Remembrance Sunday . discover some the stories behind those who have fallen in the service of their country.

Paragon Art Gallery have a special show starting on Saturday, a retrospective of the work of William J Colclough 1938-2007. We'll definitely pop down to take alook and it runs until 16th September.They will also be hosting their 2nd exhibition of work by local artist (and artist in residence) Steven Bewsher.
Sunday's visual stimulation can be found in Bollington Art Centre's Gallery with Eclectic Stitches.Meanwhile over the hill theres the Craft Fair in Buxton on both days.
Saturday night sees jazz in Bollington with John Hallam Jazztet with Jeff Barnhart. Apparently John and Jeff were sensational last year – and will be again no doubt. The Knuckleheads play the Swan with two Necks in Macc .If you get along tell us what they were like.

On Sunday why not head to the Hollins Farmers Market for some nice veg to go with the roast ?
The loop does like a party and hope to head down to Ronnie's bar's second birthday bash on later on with Carus Thompson and the Virgin Mary's playing.Should be a good one.Oh and happy birthday!

We do like a bank holiday weekend although it usually heralds a good down pour. Grab a brolly and get on with it any way. Theres 'folk in a field' at Rushton Spencer on Saturday night and Crafts in Siddington Village hall on Sunday and Monday 10.30-4.30.The 'Creative Craft Association' is well known for Craft and Gift Fairs and they are in action at Gawsworth Hall Saturday- Monday this weeknd with speciality food and entertainment also.

We're eagerly heading down to West Park on Sunday 12- 4pm for the Skate Jam at the specially built ramp. Frankly a danger to ourselves on anything other than our own feet, but we are keen to see the graffitti art by Krek and Mers, who will be decorating the newly enlarged and enhanced skate ramp. They will also be producing two special original canvasses that will go on display in Macclesfield town center and up for auction on eBay, with other art from local artists, to support the costs of the jam.Oh there's reggae too.

Gig wise theres Conspiricy of Equals(friday) Electric Echo (Saturday) and Guttersnipe on Sunday at the Nags Head. Whilst Ronnies hosts George Borowski on Monday 31st.

Lots of good stuff this weekend; that's the summer for you. Buxton Festival kicks off tomorrow with its usual enticing range of theatre, music, exhibitions......and more. This side of the Cat and Fiddle there's plenty of entertainment closer to home. There's a lecture on Friday at the Heritage centre The principles of Braid and Trim as part of the Three Shires Textile Festival. Stephanie Ramage shows her work at the uniquely lovely King Edward St Chapel from Friday and you can busy your hands at a Felt Making Workshop with Carol Mowl, in Poynton on Saturday.
Get nautical with the Pirates of Penzance in the Open Air Theatre at Gawsworth from Friday to Sunday but if Gilbert and Sullivan are not your thing try Straight From The Wood at the Hollins on Friday night.

Whatever you get up to tell them you saw it in the loop!

Before we tempt you with more textile treats from The Three Shires Festival a quick reminder that you can catch Jamie Walker and his guitar tomorrow night (Thursday) at the Hollins on Black Road.

Meanwhile Friday sees the unveiling of the winner of the Jobling Gowler prize.You can view this at the exhibition of the finalists and winning entries at Jobling Gowler's solicitors office/ light and spacious exhibition space on Park Lane.
Saturday has the Colour and texture in needlework day school at the Heritage Centre with prestigious speakers Kaffe Fassett, Diana Springall ( hope you've seen her collection at the Silk Museum?) and more. Booking essential.
The loop is an architecturally nosy creature, so we'll be heading along to Visualize for a double treat: an exhibition of work by three contemporary artists, creating fine art contemporary textiles and a chance to have a look at the newly restored Fence House on Buxton Rd.
If there weren't so many things happening locally we might nip into Manchester on Saturday to scour the first Manchester CONTENTS MAY VARY Art Car Boot Fair: an exhibition about the high-end art market delivered within the format of low-end trade.....but there's no time!

After last weekends frenetic action the loop was hoping to take a breather, but there's no rest for the wicked, there is plenty going on this weekend too. Fingers crossed for fantastic weather...

Catch the last day of The Romantic North exhibition at Bollington Art Centre with Dean Entwistle and Colin Hallidays paintings ( see smallest above). The loop loves both of these painters and its great to see their work together.

'Inner landscapes' upstairs at Sevens by artist Yvonne Philips (see pic above) ends this Saturday, so get up there quick.
Friday night there is A lark in the Park in Congleton as part of the Food and drink Festival.The evening stars The Woodlanders Country Dance Band, playing authentic southern English country dance music with a modern twist played by four musicians with a fondness for tunes played by the poet and novelist Thomas Hardy. Heady stuff, you'll need a restorative pint at the Beer Festival on the Saturday we suspect.

Ronnies convivial courtyard is the venue for the Box Groove Coolers live on Sunday with a gourmet barbeque to complement and their curious new gold fish cocktails.....

We are intruiged by the three day Hot Air Balloon extravagnaza at Capesthorne: air Rides, Tethered Balloons - an amazing array of Shapes & Colours, Stunt Teams, Beer Tent and Live Music. On the Saturday night there is a Spectacular Night Glow & Fireworks Display.

Blimey, theres more. Gig wise, tonight there is Cactus Moon at the Hollins, Black Road, Macc: blues/rock for the afficianado. Free entry. Also at the Old Kings Head, Byrons lane, Gurnett, where the delicately named Unshaggables appear on Saturday night, also free entry. Music of a more formal nature can be heard in Macc Town Square tomorrow evening (Sat) with the traditional Beating the Retreat: An Age-Old Tradition of the British Army, performed by The Band of the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment at 6.30pm.
If you want to try your hand at something creative this weekend Claire de Ruiter is running a felt workshop. Learn how to design and make a stylish felt bag and use felted flowers to enhance it. Just perfect for that summer wedding! More from her later in a wonderful exhibition during the textile festival (see their link).
Its the 3rd Saturday of the month so if you want to eat exceptional food get along to the Cloverbank farmers Market on Saturday morning and stock up on some delicious local treats.The weather should be good so take the kids up to the beautiful Goyt Valley for an Insect day with the Park Rangers, look at wildlife and take part in a mini beast hunt! If you dare.

Gigs abound

The loop is sometimes guilty of moaning about shortfalls in the cultural life of Macc. Forgive us!
That said it is brilliant that there is such a vibrant music scene with regular pub gigs throughout the town. At the Nags Head you can catch Fugitive on the 12 June and Fury Uk on the 13th.Jonny Gunn play the Swan with Two Necks on the 12th with Morph the night after. Whilst Sunday has the modestly named Unshaggables at Ronnies. Go and have a listen and a pint.
