Hark! A host of heavenly choirs are singing this weekend. Starting tonight (Saturday 12 December) with the KEMS Christmas Concert at St Michael’s Church, in the Market Place. There’s jazz too at Bollington Arts Centre, with James Evans’ Incredible String Four with special guest Amy Roberts. Starting at 8pm and costing £8. (01625 574410)

Alternatively, bring the weekend to an angelic close with the Bollington Festival Choir and enjoy Monteverdi Beatus Vir, Caldara Mass in G, seasonal music and carols. You’ll need to be at Bollington Methodist Church at 7.30pm with tickets £8/£4 (01625 420615)

The loop is often to be heard moaning about the lack of theatre in Macc (MADS etc aside) so is delighted to hear about an innovative Macc production and one which highlights such a significant worthwhile local cause.The author of the Vagina Monologues, Eve Ensler has interviewed women from all walks of life and all ages and compiled them into this extraordinary montage of various real women’s experiences.

V-Day is a global movement aimed at ending violence against women, and the profits from this performance will be going to Macclesfield Womens' Aid, who help women and children escape abusive home situations. Hence they want ordinary local women, and ideally those who feel strongly about the cause (such as those who have encountered abuse or are close to someone who has). Acting experience is nothing compared to passion in these productions! But remember this is not an absolute prerequisite.They are also keen to find a venue for their final production next February so if you have a spacious hall / performance space and would like to support this important cause please contact them.

Playing with sand

As you know the loop is a bit of a fan of Tim Woodhouse (he played a loop social and we profiled him in loop 5) and you can catch him tonight with Loose Elastic, Arthur Wakefield, Steve Durrant and many others. New audience members and performers are welcome as they are on every first Tuesday of the month.

The loop is all for 'beaches in buildings' as the British weather is so fickle. With that in mind, that dynamic local vicar is in action again: Taffy is directing Sutton stage group PURVIES in 'Sandcastles' a light Summer comedy. The play runs from tomorrow, July 8 till Saturday.
