Out of Town: music

Glossop isn't exactly on the door step but then again its Music club 'The Lift' is serving up some truly inspiring gigs and films that definitely make the trip a must. As is their policy, they feature an eclectic mix of some of the best live acts currently touring and refreshingly their door prices are set purely to cover the costs of the artists.Okay, so here is what is coming up over the next four weeks. More info on these and forthcoming gigs can be found on their website www.liftglobal.com.

Good to meet you

It was marvellous to see so many loop readers at Ronnies Bar on Tuesday night. Thanks Ronnie for your hospitality and chip butties. We enjoyed the film and particularly the 'short' of Mill Street with music by Tim Woodehouse. RIP Cleggs. Many thanks to Blord for allowing us to show his film.

In future loop Socials hope to revolve around the showing of a short film with a live element too. Hope this suits everyone and it should allow for more time for post performance chatter and socialising. It seems loop readers are quite a garrulous bunch. Details of this to follow. Thanks again for coming and book early for the next one as we are space limited.

Meet the Author: Stephen May

A must for Loop readers, the chance to meet with and listen to Stephen May reading from his first novel TAG published late last year.

Tag is a cracking story which also has important things to say about youth; about middle age; about what it means to be considered gifted; about Wales and England, as well as some withering, satirical comment about contemporary life. It is also, in parts, very funny indeed.

‘…a cross between Lord of the Flies and The Curious Incident…’
Nick Ahad, Yorkshire Post

TAG ISBN: 978-1-905614-37-0 £8.99

So pencil it in your diary and look out for further details in the next loop. Booking essential maccloop@googlemail.com

Crafts person, artist, record dealer, reformed hoarder?

Stall holders wanted:

Ronnie Rees of Ronnies Bar in Dukes Court is looking to hold a regular Sunday market in his large, sheltered courtyard just off Mill Street.

He is keen to see people sell artwork, contemporary craft, records, smaller antiques, vintage clothes or ?? He is hoping to get this going pretty soon with the first one being the first Sundaty in March so if you are tempted to take a stall (no charge for this and tables provided) please contact him: ronnie@ronnies-bar.co.uk

Even if you cant take a stall remember it will be the perfect place to read the papers on a Sunday morning with a decent coffee followed by a mooch round the stalls....

Loop Social at Ronnie's Bar

To coincide with the publication of the next Loop we would like to ask you to join us for another Loop 'social'. We stuck our toe in the water last November when a crowd of us watched 'Harold and Maude', enjoyed a glass of wine or two and feasted on Ronnies marvellous (and free) chip butties. It was a really chatty convivial evening, so were doing it again with a different film this time. Please come along to Ronnie's bar in Dukes Court on Tuesday 20th January. We hope you can join us and other Loop readers for an evening of upbeat film analysis or casual banter about anything really, but stress you need to book as spaces are limited. Details Tuesday 20th Jan 8pm Ronnie's bar, Dukes Court (off Mill St) Contact Jane 07981 128454
