Poems and pints

POEMS & PINTS

We are very fond of John Lindley (former Cheshire Poet Laureate) since he charmed us at a loop social some months back. Crikey last year to be precise. Join him for a poem and a very good pint on Thursday night A chance to read your own poems or your favourites or just come to listen (and drink, of course) Thursday 11th March 8 PM Beartown Tap Willow Street Congleton Held upstairs. £2.00 on the door

Local author Erica James can be seen at the Macclesfield branch of Waterstones tomorrow night. That's Thursday 11 March at 7pm. I say local, I believe she divides her life between her Cheshire home and the one on Lake Como, Italy. (No questions about George Clooney please.) She will be talking about and promoting her latest novel The Queen of New Beginnings. Tickets are available in store, the price £3 (redeemable against purchase of the book on the night.) A fine crowd is expected and tickets are selling fast - don't miss out.

Keystone cops anybody?

A word from AWAOS:
'Curvy ladies and energetic men required. Now how often do you hear that?
Alderley and Wilmslow Amateur Operatic Society, who are currently in rehearsal for their annual Spring concert "Got to sing, got to dance" will be staging the musical Mack and Mabel in November at the Evans Theatre Wilmslow. Mack and Mabel is the story of the tumultuous relationship between Hollywood director Mack Sennett and Mabel Normand who became one of his biggest stars.
The Society have drawn together an extremely experienced production team and this promises to be a fun packed event with opportunities for ladies who aspire to be bathing beauties or men who think they might enjoy the rough and tumble of being a Keystone Cop.
For information on joining the Society in any capacity, front stage or back stage please contact Anne Hallworth at ahallworth@talktalk.net The group are also looking for a wardrobe mistress, a role that would ideally suit someone with an interest in costume/fashion.
Better still, come along and see the group in person when "Got to sing, got to dance" hits the stage at the Woodford Community Hall from the 22nd to 27th March. The show features songs and dance numbers from many well known musical favourites, showcasing the group's multi talented membership.
