RIP Ian Curtis

Ian Curtis RIP

1956- 1980

Today the 30th anniversary of Curtis' death it is natural to be thinking about the huge creative influence Curtis and Joy Division have had on the music world. It is surely also high time that Macclesfield thinks about celebrating it's extraordinary son. A plaque at 77 Barton Street at the
very least, a statue?
Your thoughts?

A sad day and one that is being celebrated around the region - Spinningfields, Manchester are showing Control on Thursday as part of their Screenfields programme, and more notably, the website for Unknown Pleasures has been launched today: http://www.joydivisionexhibition.com/events.php
This is the Joy Division 'festival' which was - it transpires wrongly - assumed to be off, but instead appears to be back in near-entirety but slightly later than originally planned. Well done to all those involved - the website looks great and the programme (despite being described in the Guardian as mawkish - see http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2010/may/17/ian-curtis-joy-division-wak) also looks fab. And look - the Heritage Centre is being used as the exhibition space...interesting.

Macclesfield really must wake up and celebrate the life of this young man... whoose far reaching talent is still a seminal force in music. A blue plaque is the least we could hope for!
