Jerry is the inaugural headliner in a new series of special concerts, promoted by former pupil and jazz composer Steve Plews and local impresario Steve Darlington.

Steve Plews said: "This is an amazing coup for the local music scene. Jerry is truly a world great. Indeed, when Michael Brecker was asked what it was like to be the world's greatest living saxophonist, he simply replied ?I don't know - ask Jerry Bergonzi.'

Steve added: 'Jerry's playing is characterised by relentless drive, inner fire, total command, awesome technique, elastic lyricism and rich resonance. He is a world-class musical visionary and will be one of the most influential and talented musicians ever to perform in Macclesfield."
