The Old Butter Market
Macclesfield's covered Butter Market was built in 1823 as part of the Town Hall and shown on the 1871 map between the new Town Hall and the Police Station.
Farmers with their wives and children brought baskets of eggs, pats of butter on cabbage and rhubarb leaves, cheeses and fruit etc.
There were many cheese markets held regularly in the town. This Butter Market dwindled and was closed in 1939, and for a number of years now it has been used for storage until coming to life again as part of the Treacle Market.
Make sure you take a look inside this Sunday for stalls of antiques and interesting craft.
