Treacle Time

No doubt like us you have spent January in a state of frugal denial (ahem!) with a spartan diet, to make up for the excesses of Christmas. Well Sunday is the day to throw your mung beans in the air and head to the Market Place and Chestergate for a bumper Food and Drink Market. Prepare to gorge yourself on local honey, rustic breads, crafted pies, exquisite cup cakes, local ales, mouthwatering sausages and even vegan and gluten free delicicies. There will be live music  from Phil Maddox to serenade you as you fill your basket. Make sure its a big one.

The loop is a contrary bird. Ostensibly focusing on the Arts it occasionally strays when something catches its beady magpie's eye. So here we go: recycling, green energy and a something for young people to get their teeth into. Spread the word!

The Weston Bike Project.

The aim is to have a Bike Shop on the Weston estate that children can get involved with in a beneficial way not only for themselves but for the whole of the Weston estate.

A shop that kids can bring their bikes to for repair and pay for the repair by cleaning other bikes that have been donated to us by Cheshire Police, British Rail or striping damaged bike for spares and if they haven't a bike but would like one they can volunteer to work in the shop until they have earned one.

This shop will give the children somewhere to go in the evenings instead of hanging round the streets getting up to no good, its all about the children.

This project is supported by Cheshire East Performance & Partnership, Cheshire Peaks & Plains Housing Trust, Cheshire Police, The Calvary Church and Halfords.

And if all goes well they may open a Cafe next door again for the children.....

Halfords are going to lend a qualified mechanic paid for by them until they have qualified volunteers.

but they are short of adult volunteers so......

The opening hours will probably be something like 16:30pm to 18:30pm

If you would like to get involved in this really worthwhile project contact Ken Hayter

Save Our Waterstone's

Choosing a book can be a blissful thing, a tactile (even sensual) experience... holding it in your hand, stroking the pages, browsing the first paragraph and sneakily sniffing it. So how alarming to realise that Waterstone's Macclesfield is under threat of closure, in the course of this year. (for Jane Birch more than most - she works there and loves her job).

It may be too late all ready but as nothing has been announced yet... theloop recommends buying your books locally and supporting the store. You may save a few £s buying on line (or from Tesco) but the price of cheap books is NO book shop on the high street and that's too high a price to pay.

Please feel free to comment and offer your support here, Or, let the staff know how you feel, a comment book will be provided in store. Updates will be posted as received and if necessary petitions raised and read-ins organised.

Together we can make a difference to Macclesfield and save our Waterstone's.
